(from the preface to the sheet music edition): The present "15 two-part inventions in the Bach manner" were all composed during the winter semester of 1978/79, in preparation for the written examination in counterpoint which took place in April 1979 at the State University of Music in Freiburg/Breisgau. All the invention themes were given to us.
